Tellurium is a rare element which has been regarded as a toxic, non-essential trace element and its biological role is not clearly established to date. Besides of that, the biological effects of elemental tellurium and some of its inorganic and organic derivatives have been studied, leading to a set of interesting and promising applications. As an example, it can be highlighted the uses of alkali-metal tellurites and tellurates in microbiology, the antioxidant effects of organotellurides and diorganoditellurides and the immunomodulatory effects of the non-toxic inorganic tellurane, named AS-101, and the plethora of its uses. Control of Acid Phosphatases Expression from Aspergillus niger by Soil Characteristics BABT

ABSTRACTThis work studied the acid phosphatase (APase) activity from culture medium (extracellular, eAPase) and mycelial extract (intracellular, iAPase) ofAspergillus niger F111. The influence of fungus growth and phosphate concentration of the media on the synthesis and secretion of phosphatase was demonstrated. The effects of pH, substrate concentration and inorganic and organic compounds added to the reaction mixture on APase activity were also studied. Both enzymes were repressed by high concentrations of phosphate. Overexpression of iAPase in relation to eAPase was detected; iAPase activity was 46.1 times higher than eAPase. Digestive endo-proteases from the midgut glands of the Indian white shrimp, Penaeus Indicus (Decapoda: Penaeidae) from Kenya OceanDocs

In order to provide information on the digestive capacity of marine crustacea of mariculture potential in Kenya with a view to aiding the development of suitable feeds to support the industry, a biochemical survey was made of enzymes of extracellular digestion in the Indian White shrimp, Penaeus indicus. Results showed midgut gland endo-proteases in wild adult shrimp from the Kenya coast to have optima between pH 7.2 and 8.5 (Trypsin pH 7.5-8.0, Chymotrypsin pH 7.2-7.8, Elastase pH 6.8-8.5) with maximum specific activities of 101-408, 37-516, 70-90 Units mg protein-1 min-1 for trypsin, chymotrypsin and elastase respectively.
